The Dangers of Antiperspirant Deodorant

Do you use antiperspirant deodorant? this BLOG mite be worth a read!

As a Movement & lifestyle coach I am seeing a real trend developing where people are just not wanting to sweat  at all – “a fear of being stinky” maybe?

When clients tell me they don’t like to sweat I say back to them.. “you don’t”? i love to sweat!!! How can you not like to sweat????

One of the reasons I love to sweat is because sweating is one of the most effective methods of riding your body of toxins, at least 30% of the toxins that leave our body do so through our skin & sweat. 3rd only to elimination & respiration systems.

To rid our bodies of all the different toxins that we are subjected to these days sweating regularly through movement or saunas is essential.

Chemicals & toxins are everywhere; they are just a part of the modern world these days. Some 1500 different chemicals come in contact with our commercial food supply between the soil & our dinner plate.

The air that we breathe, household cleaners, soaps, make-up, perfume, swimming pools, tap water, bug sprays, pharmaceutical drugs… the list is endless.

When you compare what our body has to go through these days in comparison to back when we just lived off the land it is fair to say even some of the healthiest people alive are still subject to a lot of unavoidable chemicals that our body is not really designed to deal with, break down & try to eliminate.

The main reason I felt the need to write this blog is because of the booming antiperspirant industry, Let’s just break that word down for a second… “Antiperspirant” now if our skin is 30% of our detoxification pathway why would we spray something on us that is going to stop this important process from taking place?

Antiperspirant blocks the pause of the skin in the very area of the body that sweats the most, now just imagine for a second if we blocked our elimination process up & stopped going to the toilet each day, yuck! It is quite similar & as unhealthy in quite a few ways..

If your sweat smells it’s your body’s way of telling you that you need to start addressing some lifestyle factors & lowering your total toxicity levels by reducing the amount of contact with things like on the list above.

Antiperspirant in fact will end up making your sweat smell worse & you will need to use it more often as antiperspirant itself is full of more chemicals – how ironic!!

So what to do?

These days you can buy just about everything for the home, skin or under arm that is chemical free, even the major supermarkets are getting on board as more & more people are making the switch to natural products due to a host of skin reactions from products made from chemicals.

In a past blog I discussed the importance of cleansing; cleansing is a detoxification process that I and my clients go through a few times a year, there are no magic pills or starvation diets, just good clean healthy living

Depending on where your health is currently will depend on what sort of cleanse you might attempt. Initially for some people it might be as simple as not eating take away food, drinking alcohol & getting out in nature for some much needed fresh air for a week or 2.

With others that are eating relatively clean already we take the approach to a clean body to the next step, there is always room for improvement. The lower the toxicity levels in the body the clearer & happier the mind will be.

So the message is simple

If you are using antiperspirant to mask sweating I recommend stopping, allowing your body to detoxify naturally & think about trying to reduce the amount of chemicals coming into your system on a daily basis then you wont smell.
